Public Policy

Chamber East helps to support a pro-business environment and this policy is one of the most important roles of chambers of commerce. From here you can find official positions of Chamber East, representing the business community of Cottonwood Heights, Midvale, Millcreek, & Sugar House Areas including all businesses on the east side of the Salt Lake Valley.

On the left you will find links to the Utah Legislature.

If you support any if our positions, we encourage you to contact your local representative or senator or city council person and express your views to them personally. Emails work well, phone calls even better and the best option of all are hand written letters to your representative because they usually garner the best results.

Transportation:

Chamber East believes safe and efficient highways, including mass transit, are necessary to support economic development throughout all of Utah. Transportation issues have a profound impact to economic development and commerce along the Wasatch Front and in Cottonwood Heights, Midvale, Millcreek & Sugar House areas. Transportation issues affect the whole of the Salt Lake Valley and indeed the whole state of Utah in general. "If you have gridlock in Salt Lake City you affect commerce in Moab." Lane Beattie President/CEO - Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce

Transportation Policy- Chamber East supports maximizing the region’s use of transportation dollars toward initiatives and projects which improve multi-jurisdictional coordination, reduce congestion, improve air quality, and provide better mobility options to strengthen economic prosperity. Transportation projects should generally coincide with usage of transportation modes. We feel this is the best way of addressing congestion, mobility and air quality.

Highways- Chamber East supports continued funding for planning, design and construction of safe and efficient regional highway facilities in order to:
* meet workforce needs;
* insure businesses have the mobility to move goods and services; and
* help businesses respond to customer needs safely, competitively, and efficiently.

Mass Transit- Chamber East supports continued funding as needed to expand and improve mass transit in order to provide adequate transportation for strengthening all aspects of community. Priority should be placed in the growing western Salt Lake County area.

Mountain View Corridor- Chamber East supports the right-of-way acquisition and construction of Mountain View Corridor as a vital west-side freeway. Chamber East suggests transportation leaders review and find alternative funding options and funding diversification for the Mountain View Corridor to maintain its free usage. The Mountain View Corridor is necessary for economic development and prosperity and is urgently needed to handle the planned residential and commercial growth over the next several decades.

Unfair Government Competition:

Chamber East supports legislation and regulations that prohibit federal, state, and local governments from entering into competition with the private sector. An exception is when goods
and/or services are inherently governmental, must be performed by the government, or require the government to focus on its core mission functions.

More policies coming soon.
